For most women, the appearance of their breasts is likely to change over time as major life changes affect their bodies. Breast tissue can become thinned, and thinning skin will stretch over time, causing the breasts to appear sagging or “drooping.” Changes like this can occur with weight gain and subsequent weight loss, after pregnancy and breast feeding, and also as a result of the the natural aging process of the breasts. The medical term to address this is breast ptosis, pronounced “toh-sis.” There are varying degrees of breast ptosis classified based on the level of the nipple in relation to the surrounding breast tissue. Regardless of the grade of ptosis, Dr. Jiles will be able to evaluate your breasts and discuss with you options for a breast lift ( also known as mastopexy) surgery.
Dr. Jiles of Jiles Cosmetic Surgery is a cosmetic surgeon with extensive fellowship training in mastopexy and a certified member of six different medical boards. Dr. Jiles offers mastopexy surgery in Sarasota, Fl.
A breast lift (or mastopexy) is a surgery removes mostly excess skin, and also some breast tissue to effectively lift the entire breast to a more appealing shape on the breast wall. The procedure can easily be combined with a breast augmentation, if desired, to add increased upper breast fullness, projection, and cleavage. The end result is the breasts are reshaped and lifted to their proper position on the chest wall. The procedure may be customized within reason according to the desired resultant breast size.
Most women seeking to lift their breasts are experiencing one or more of the following :
Ideal candidates are not smokers, or are able to stop all nicotine products and vaping for 1 month prior and 1 month after the surgery. This is important for blood supply to the nipples and the skin of the breasts. In general, good candidates for elective surgery do not have uncontrolled medical conditions, and their BMI is ideally under 39. These things do not necessarily exclude you from having a breast lift with Dr. Jiles. If these areas are a concern, be sure to ask Dr. Jiles and she will make arrangements to best have your needs met to make the surgery as safe as possible.
I am new to this area. I got online looking for a plastic surgeon for breast surgery. I read the reviews and I made an appointment to see Dr Emily Jiles. The staff are amazing and made me relax and not be nervous. So nice and helpful with local information. When I saw Dr Emily she made me feel comfortable and was very informative about what I needed to have done. She performed a breast lift and also replaced my saline breast implants. My surgery went great. Recovery time went fast. I was amazed at how well I did. My scars are looking great. Dr Jiles is an amazing doctor. She’s the BEST. Thank You
A breast lift addresses something that surgery can genuinely change: the position, shape, and projection of the breast. But knowing whether a lift is the right procedure, and what kind of lift makes sense for your specific anatomy, requires honest evaluation and careful discussion. That is exactly where our consultation process begins.
Dr. Jiles holds memberships on the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and the American College of Surgeons, among other professional affiliations. Her approach is guided by the principle that good cosmetic surgery enhances what is already there rather than imposing a particular look. For breast lift patients, that means focusing on results that feel natural, proportionate, and right for your body.
One thing we hear often from patients who have consulted elsewhere is that the conversation felt rushed or one-sided. Here, we prioritize the opposite. We want you to understand what a lift can realistically accomplish, what the trade-offs are, and whether combining a lift with augmentation might or might not serve your goals better than either procedure alone. We will give you our honest perspective even if that means steering you away from something you initially thought you wanted.
Our team is entirely female, which resonates with many patients who find that environment more comfortable for discussions about their bodies. We welcome patients from Sarasota, Bradenton, St. Petersburg, and Tampa who are ready to have a thoughtful conversation about whether a breast lift is the right path forward.

You will have your consultation with Dr. Jiles at Jiles Cosmetic Surgery, where she will get your detailed medical history and do a breast exam. At that time, it is particularly important to discuss your exact goals for the breast lift (or lift with augmentation), and bring up any history relevant to your breast health such as family history of cancer or recent mammograms. If implants are desired, Dr. Jiles will help you choose the material ( silicone vs saline) and the size right for you.
Your surgery will be performed at our outpatient surgery center, Jiles Cosmetic Surgery. On the day of your breast lift and augmentation surgery a licensed anesthesia provider will place you under general anesthesia. During that time you will be closely monitored by them for your safety and comfort.
During the surgery, local anesthetic will be injected into the breasts to assist with postoperative comfort and to control bleeding during the procedure. The majority of the excess breast skin from the bottom of the breast is removed, and nipples are resized to an appropriate, proportional size and rotated upward into place. Implants are placed under the muscle at that time as well. The whole procedure takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours depending on the breast size and contouring necessary.
As you recover, you will be assisted by one of our excellent nursing staff and find that you have a soft, compressive surgical bra in place. You will have post operative medications prescribed such as pain medication to keep you comfortable, as well as antibiotics.
Anticipate approximately 1 to 2 weeks off from work following the procedure to optimize the comfort of your recovery. The worst phase of your post operative pain will subside after the first few days. If implants were placed, it is typical to feel heaviness in your chest. You will need to avoid driving for about 2 weeks until it is comfortable for you to wear your seat belt. You will be instructed to refrain from heavy exercise for 4 to 6 weeks, and avoid lifting over 5 pounds for the same amount of time. Typically, a soft non restrictive bra ( sports bra) is encouraged until 3 months after the surgery to allow the tissues to “settle.”
You will immediately notice the difference in the appearance of your breasts after surgery. The breasts may feel firm and tender for the first month after surgery, and will continue to soften and “settle” as they heal. If implants were placed, they initially appear high on the chest wall, and will “settle” into place slowly over the first three months after surgery. The incisions are surrounding the areolas, straight down the middle of the breast, and underneath the breast (anchor configuration). They will appear as red lines on fair skin and darker lines on dark skin as they heal, and will slowly lighten over the course of a year.
